CLINICAL ACUPUNCTURE
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese system of healing. The earliest acupuncture books were written 4,500 years ago. Traditional Chinese Medicine explains acupuncture through the philosophies of Yin, Yang and the Five Elements (Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth). The Chinese have identified 14 main channels or meridians that run through the body. The meridians conduct the flow of “Vital Energy” or “Qi” (pronounced “chi”) in the body. If the flow of these energy channels is disrupted pain or disease occurs. By inserting very fine sterile needles into selected points on the meridians, this flow can be corrected or unblocked, returning the body into its healthy condition.
Acupuncture is not painful, though you might feel a brief sting when a needle passes through the skin. As the needle begins to work and the energy effect occurs, you may feel a tingling sensation, a slight numbness or even heat along the channel.
